A few quotes from Secret Church 2014

The Church at Brook Hills  has Secret Church once a year on Good Friday. This year, I made the trip to Birmingham to watch the simulcast with my sister, brother-in-law and their friends.

We learned how the cross of Christ affects every part of our daily lives.

Here are some quotes from the simulcast, which was taught by David Platt, that jumped out at me last night.

You have been created to enjoy God and to exalt God. These go together.

— David Platt

Nehemiah 9:6

English Standard Version (ESV)

[a] “You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.

Sin is defiance against the Author of our lives.

— David Platt

ON HOW THE CROSS CHANGED HISTORY THEN

(Jesus is) fully God. Fully man. Uniquely qualified.

— David Platt

Colossians 1:19-20

English Standard Version (ESV)

19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Hebrews 2:17

English Standard Version (ESV)

17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

ON HOW THE DEATH OF CHRIST CHANGES EVERYTHING IN OUR LIVES TODAY

Christ lived the life you could not live. Christ died the death you deserve to die.

— David Platt

Ephesians 2:4-9

English Standard Version (ESV)

But[a] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

We can pray about mustard seeds and mountains. We can pray about colds and cancers.

— David Platt

Isaiah 40:28-29

English Standard Version (ESV)

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Repentance always leads to restoration of relationships.

— David Platt

Because Christ owns you, you owe Christ to the world.

— David Platt

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

English Standard Version (ESV)

14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

* Quotations were written down during the Secret Church 2014 simulcast in the Secret Church study guide, which was written by David Platt and included the scriptures mentioned in this post.
